University, City and Region together for Diversity
The University of Bayreuth and the city of Bayreuth are locally and regionally anchored, networked and at the same time integrated into international dynamics. This can be seen, for example, in the large number of international employees and university members who shape and enrich life in Bayreuth. There is a need for a cosmopolitan welcoming culture that enables highly qualified international talent to settle in here quickly from day one and possibly even plan a mid- or even long-term life in the region. Even short-term visits should not be underestimated in their ambassadorial function for the Upper Franconia region.
It is important to the City of Bayreuth and the University of Bayreuth to overcome the social challenges together through close dialogue and coordinated cooperation. Particularly in the key areas of internationalisation and diversity, mobility and sustainability as well as - of course - transfer, the city and university want to further intensify their existing cooperation. This will also initiate and promote the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outside of universities.
The university, city and district not only face similar challenges here, they also share democratic values and the conviction that internationality and diversity are a benefit for living together: They go hand in hand with creativity, quality of life and innovation.
The university and the city want to think internationalisation and social responsibility together and thus work together even more strongly for a non-discriminatory coexistence. To this end, we are specifically strengthening skills in dealing with diversity. As partners, we want to take responsibility for ensuring that people from different backgrounds feel comfortable and welcome in Bayreuth.
Joint events and platforms are used to promote a competent, respectful approach to diversity in all its facets in the city, on campus, at work and in leisure time.
For more diversity in Bayreuth: "Letter of Intent"
In a "Letter of Intent", University President Prof. Dr Stefan Leible and Mayor Thomas Ebersberger have agreed to work even more closely together in the future to make Bayreuth's teaching, research and working environment more diverse. In order to work together even more strongly in favour of non-discriminatory coexistence and to strengthen skills in dealing with diversity, the city and the University of Bayreuth are taking responsibility as partners for ensuring that people from a wide range of backgrounds can feel comfortable and welcome in Bayreuth. Joint events and platforms are intended to sustainably promote a competent, respectful approach to diversity in all its facets in the city, on campus, in the world of work and in leisure time.
To this end, it is essential to share experiences, pool expertise and collectively develop measures to combat discrimination and everyday racism, thereby promoting social coexistence. These challenges are to be actively tackled.
