Round Table "Anti-Racism" starts

02.04.2021

Racism is a structural reality in all areas of our society, including our university and our city.

In the context of the Black Lives Matter movement, many students, researchers, and faculty at our university have increasingly raised their voices to address racism during the past year. As a result, our University Governing Board has become increasingly aware of the fundamental necessity of addressing the problem while recognizing their own responsibility in promoting a university-wide critical examination of racism, and to take active steps against it.

To this end, an Anti-Racism Committee was formed in November 2020. The committee wants to create safe spaces for exchange on existing racism. This is to be accomplished in close exchange with those affected by racism (Black people, people of color and others) from all walks of life at our university.

As a first step, a permanent Anti-Racism Round Table will be established starting in the summer semester of 2021. Its initial idea is to take stock of racist experiences at the university and in the city of Bayreuth from the perspectives of those affected. The further development of the Round Table will be worked on together with the participants.

The first Anti-Racism Round Table will take place on Monday, 10 May 2021 from 04:00-06:00 PM.
People who are interested in participating can contact the Diversity Service Office by 16 April 2021.
