Diversity in the Workplace, 26 May 2020

The University of Bayreuth endorses the Diversity Charter on the occasion of the German Diversity Day 2020. The charter is a voluntary commitment to promote diversity and appreciation in the working world. By signing the charter, University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible reaffirms the University of Bayreuth's will to promote equal opportunities and diversity at the University of Bayreuth and to create a working environment that is free of prejudice and discrimination.

"At our open-minded university, the entire diversity of society is represented", explains University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. "In our mission statement, we have already emphasized that we respect all people on our campus equally, regardless of their differences, that we value their diversity and also want to promote it. By signing the Diversity Charter, we reaffirm our commitment to an equitable and discrimination-free university culture."

For this reason, the University has firmly anchored the realization of equal opportunities, the promotion of diversity as well as determined action against discrimination in its overall strategy. "We do not tolerate discrimination against persons at our university on the basis of their gender, origin and nationality, sexual orientation, religion or worldview, age or disability", says Prof. Dr. Thomas Scheibel, Vice President for Internationalization, Equal Opportunities and Diversity. "In addition, we consider the diverse experiences, perspectives and skills of our employees and students to be an essential resource for creativity and innovation, for gaining new scientific knowledge and developing innovative solutions for tomorrow's world".
