Representative Body for Severly Disabled EmployeesHide

Representative Body for Severly Disabled Employees

The representative body for severely disabled employees (Schwerbehindertenvertretung, SBV) has the task of promoting and monitoring the integration of severely disabled persons and persons of equal status in the workplace. It represents their interests and provides them with advice and assistance. Preventive work is also an integral part of the SBV's tasks.

Main tasks
In particular, SBV ensures that the university as an employer

  • complies with the laws, regulations, collective agreements and service agreements that apply to severely disabled people,
  • complies with its obligations under the Social Code IX,
  • concludes inclusion agreements,
  • involves the SBV in the observance of accessibility in construction measures.

Areas of consultation and support include

  • occupational integration management
  • recognition procedures
  • corrective and preventive work design
  • compensation for disadvantages and other benefit claims
  • workplace inspections
  • special protection against dismissal
  • conflict situations, mobbing and discrimination.

Employer's Inclusion CommissionerHide

Employer's Inclusion Commissioner

Together with the representative body for severely disabled persons and the staff council, the employer's inclusion representative forms the integration team.

The Specific Tasks of the Inclusion Representative
are defined in the Bavarian Inclusion Guidelines:

  • "The representatives must work to ensure that the laws, ordinances, collective agreements and administrative regulations applicable to severely disabled persons are implemented in their departments."
  • They should also work to ensure that employees of the department who meet the requirements for recognition of their status as severely disabled persons apply for recognition and also disclose this to their employer." (BayInklR, Section 14.1.2)

Complaints Office and Complaints ProcedureHide

Complaints Office and Complaints Procedure

Employees can file a complaint in cases of discrimination and harassment. This initiates a formal complaint procedure, which is carried out by the University of Bayreuth's neutral complaints office.

The complaint procedure is regulated in the Anti-Discrimination Guidelines of the University of Bayreuth. It includes

  • the investigation of the facts ("What has happened?")
  • a legal examination ("Are the facts of discrimination or harassment fulfilled?"),
  • a written report of the results,
  • measures to eliminate existing discrimination and prevent future discrimination.

Counselling and Conflict ResolutionHide

External conflict counselling

Employees of the University of Bayreuth can contact our external conflict counsellors to resolve conflicts in the workplace or in cases of discrimination and harassment. The counselling is free of charge. The aim is to receive complaints and provide advice to those affected, as well as help with conflict resolution.

Guideline for Conflict Management in the Workplace

The guideline provides a basis for dealing with conflicts in the workplace in a responsible and constructive manner. It includes

  • a right to complain and contact points
  • the tasks of external conflict advisers
  • a multi-stage conflict resolution procedure.

Junior researchers: conflicts and problems in the qualification phaseHide

Ombudspersons for Junior Researchers

The ombudspersons provide advice in the event of conflicts or other problems that arise during the qualification phase. They may be called upon by junior researchers as well as by supervising university teachers, members of the University Governing Board, deans, committees or superiors in the following matters:

Supervision relationship

  • Counselling on problems between doctoral candidates and supervisors or the relationship between postdoctoral candidates and the subject mentor.
  • Scientific misconduct: Advice on the standards of good scientific practice and assistance in recognising scientific misconduct.
  • Employment status: Clarification of the rights and obligations of academic staff or junior professors.

Counselling by the ombudspersons is confidential, independent and impartial. Only at the express request of the person calling an ombudsperson will the ombudsperson attempt to mediate in a discussion with the other parties involved.

Equal Opportunities Officer for Non-Academic Staff

The Equal Opportunities Officer is the contact person for non-academic staff. They are appointed by the department for a period of three years.

Emergency number: Immediate help in case of harassment or feeling unsafe on campusHide

Emergency Number 0921 55-3333

To ensure that all people studying and working at the University of Bayreuth can feel safe on campus, an internal emergency number has been set up: 0921 55-3333. The number is intended as a low-threshold supplement to the police emergency call. It can be reached 24/7.

Security Service

Calls are forwarded directly to the security service of the University of Bayreuth. The security service is on campus in the evenings, at night and on weekends with uniformed personnel and can be called directly. At other times, they can be called to the campus and to all of the University of Bayreuth's external offices at short notice.

In which cases can the emergency number be dialled?
The number can always be dialled

  • if a person is being harassed by other people in the buildings or on the grounds of the university campus,
  • if a person feels unsafe on campus due to the presence of other persons.
  • Third parties who observe such incidents can also notify the security service via the emergency number.

In acute emergencies and dangerous situations, please dial the familiar emergency numbers 110 (police) and 112 (fire brigade, emergency doctor, ambulance).

Gender and Sexual Identity

Female professors, scientists, students: equality and preventing disadvantagesHide

University Women's Representatives

The University Women's Representatives have the task of ensuring that female students, academics and female teaching staff are not placed at a disadvantage.

They support the university on a voluntary basis in fulfilling its legal mandate,

  • to promote the actual implementation of equal rights for women and men,
  • to take this into account as a guiding principle in all decisions, and
  • eliminate existing disadvantages (cf. Art. 4 Bavarian Higher Education Act).

Faculty Women's Representatives

The faculty women's representatives are responsible for faculty-specific matters. At least one women's representative and up to two deputies are elected in each faculty. The students also provide a representative. When needed, the faculty women's representatives advise students and academic staff of their faculty.

Occupational Medicine

Occupational medicine deals with the interrelationships between working conditions and requirements and people, their health, ability to work and their illnesses.

Safety Engineer and Safety Department
All employees of the University of Bayreuth may contact the Safety Department with questions regarding occupational medicine and occupational medical care. The department also coordinates appointments for occupational medical check-ups.

Occupational medical practice
The occupational physicians perform the following tasks in particular:

  • Advice on occupational physiology and occupational psychology, hygiene and ergonomic issues
  • Preventive occupational medicine

Addiction Counselling

Addictions of a substance or non-substance nature can put the workplace at risk. The addiction prevention officer and the contact person for addiction prevention support affected employees and employees seeking help with questions about addictive behaviour, e.g.

  • Alcohol, drug and medication abuse/dependence,
  • gambling addiction,
  • related areas such as eating disorders.

In addition, colleagues and supervisors also receive information and support.

Network „Gender, Queer, Intersectionality und Diversity Studies“

GeQuInDi offers researchers, lecturers, students, activists and all interested parties at the University of Bayreuth the opportunity to exchange ideas across faculties, disciplines and universities and to conduct joint projects. The network aims to increase the institutional visibility of gender, queer, intersectionality and diversity studies at the University of Bayreuth.

Opportunities for employees

  • GeQuInDi sees itself as an open, dynamic space for multi-voiced debate at the University of Bayreuth. Membership is possible for employees.
  • In addition to the possibility of realising joint projects and strengthening one's own (research) profile through trans- and interdisciplinary cooperation, the network also offers a platform for the joint organisation of scientific and educational events, such as lectures and conferences, development of study programmes as well as the discussion of current social and daily political topics.
